After the ODI revolution in cricket, Sharjah Cricket Stadium was built for hosting ODI matches. In the start, it has just capacity of 15,000 people at a time but later on 2002, it’s increased to 27,000 people.

Short Summary of Stadium

 

In 2010, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium selected as the home ground for Afghanistan Cricket Team for One Day International. In 2016, Afghanistan changed few Test Cricket Grounds at Greater Noida Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Because of security and safety reasons, Pakistan chose Sharjah Cricket Stadium for hosted two test matches between Pakistan and the West Indies in February and two Test Matches between Pakistan and Australia in October. The other games in the series were played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium and Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

During 1984 to 2003, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium was the venue for 206 matches. It includes 198 One Day International matches and 4 test matches. Sharjah is a popular venue to attract a good crowd. It’s mostly crowed from the South Asian population of United Arab Emirates.

In 2004, Sharjah Cricket Stadium has hosted ICC Intercontinental Cup and Indian Premier League in 2014. It also hosted Pakistan Super league matches of First as well as Second Season. As the Third Season of PSL is going to start soon so it’s also selected to host some matches of PSL Schedule 2018 tournament.

After 2010, the Sharjah Cricket Stadium was not selected for International Cricketing venue because of sports fixing scandals. Due to this reason, Indian government banning the national cricket team from playing in Sharjah. After this, Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi has become the preferred venue for cricket in the United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium has the capacity of entertaining 20,000 people at a time.

In 2016, Sharjah Cricket Stadium also selected for hosting some matches of PSL First Season. In 2017, the Second Season of PSL, It’s also selected for some matches of the tournament. In the third Season of PSL, which is going to start in 2018; some matches of the psl 2018 tournament also conduct there.
